Tata Motors to launch second generation Indica

Tata Motors, one of India`s largest car producers will launch new second-generation Tata Indica by name of Indica Vista, reports Business Standard.

The car was showcased at Auto Expo in New Delhi. It will carry the new tag to differentiate itself from the Indica that is currently in production. The current model and new model of the car will co-exist, the new Indica will be positioned to take on Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Getz and i10. The car is built on a new platform and will be slightly larger than current Indica.

The car will feature an engine from fiat, the car will have 1.2-liter petrol engine called Saffire and the 1.3-liter common-rail diesel called Quadrajet and also Tata`s own 1.4-liter turbo diesel engine.

The car will be produced at Tata-Fiat`s Ranjangaon facility which has annual production capacity of 200,000 cars and 300,000 engines.

Tata-Fiat will invest Rs 40.20 billion at Ranjangaon facility in a 50:50 proportion.

Shares of the company gained Rs 4.75, or 1.14%, to trade at Rs 422.7. The total volume of shares traded was 43,318 at the BSE (12.32 p.m., Friday).
